THE NEWS ARCHIVES June 2004 29/06/04 300 new casks arrived this morning and were unloaded at lightening speed by the brewery staff, assisted by a group of volunteers. Thanks to those involved who gave up their time. They will be getting a free pint tonight at Spooner's Bar!
Half of the new casks have the brewery name in Welsh, and half in English. Below are the different versions.
25/06/04 The first 200 casks have arrived and are taking up lots of room! The next 300 will be delivered on Monday. The mains gas supply has been installed to the building in preparation for the delivery of a steam generator which will supply the brewery. Work began this week on the inside of the roof of the older part of the building. This area will contain the main brewing vessels, the conditioning room (on the ground floor), and the malt loft (on the upper floor). The underside of the tiles are covered in very old, crumbly plaster and this had been covered over by plastic sheeting.
The sheeting has been taken down, allowing the plaster to be removed from the tiles - a very slow and messy job! Also this week the Purple Moose Brewery took on its first employee, Dafydd Meurig, from Porthmadog, who will be working over the summer whilst back from university. Here he can be seen hard at work on the roof. 16/06/04 The conditioning tanks have now arrived at the brewery and are ready for installation. Unfortunately there has been a delay in getting the floor work carried out and this inevitably will put back the opening date. At this stage it is difficult to predict exactly when the brewery will be operational although it is hoped that it will be during August/September (this year!). |
