After great demand (and much nagging from certain CAMRA members!) we have finally brewed our first stout. We wanted it to be a little different from your average stout so have used bog myrtle in the brew. Also known as sweet gayle, bog myrtle is a small shrub-like herb found on damp hillsides and has been used in traditional beer recipes for centuries, particularly in Scotland for brews such as heather ale.

Purple Moose's Mysterious Myrtle Stout, brewed in time for Halloween, comes at 4.2% abv. It is a slightly sweet stout brewed with bog myrtle and hops to give an unusual but refreshing finish.

Mysterious Myrtle will be launched at the beer tent at this weekend's Conwy Feast. Don't miss it!

Beer Tent at Conwy Feast 2007
Friday 26th – Sunday 28th October

There’s something in the water…barley and hops! The beer tent at this year’s Conwy Feast promises to be the best yet with up to fifteen different cask beers available on draught as well as local Welsh cider and live music. Following last year’s great success North-West Wales’ three micro-breweries, Conwy, Great Orme and Purple Moose, will again be joining forces to offer their full range of ales, all available on one bar.

A healthy local rivalry between the brewers will be put aside as they combine forces to promote awareness of the high quality ales which the region now has to offer. The reputation of Welsh beer is fast changing for the better; something which the three breweries featured can be justly proud of.

Over the past two years they have between them notched up many awards for their beers, including Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) beer festival champions, Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) medal winners and regional champions, CAMRA Champion Beer of Wales category winners and CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain category winners.

The official opening of the Conwy Feast takes place at 6pm on Friday 26th after which the public will have an early opportunity to sample North Wales’ finest ales in the beer tent. The bar will be manned by staff from the breweries, providing a great chance for people to come and ask all about what goes in to the beer.

The beer tent will be situated on Conwy’s stunning quayside between the Liverpool Arms and the Smallest House. Entry to the tent is free and it will be open for business on Friday (6-11pm), Saturday (12-11pm) and Sunday (12-6pm).
