GLASLYN PICKS UP FIRST BOTTLED BEER AWARD FOR THE BREWERY

Cwrw Glaslyn / Glaslyn Ale has won Silver overall at the first ever 'All Wales Open Bottle Competition', held in Brecon over the weekend. After 17 different awards for Purple Moose Brewery's cask beer range this is actually the first award for the brewery's bottled beers.

The All Wales Open Bottle competition was featured as part of the 2008 Brecon Beer and Cider Festival, hosted by the Castle of Brecon Hotel, The Breconshire Brewery and Gwynt y Ddraig Cider, on Saturday 17th May 2008.

The bottled beers were all judged using blind tasting panels, in three classes determined by alcoholic strength. The top two beers from each class were then judged in a final blind tasting which determined the overall champion. The final panel was made up from CAMRA members, the local trade, a reporter from the Brecon & Radnor Express and the Mayor and Mayoress of Brecon. All judges commented on the very high standard of the beers being judged, and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Twenty seven different bottled beers were entered into the competition by thirteen breweries from across Wales. The overall top three places were:

Gold - Brains SA Gold
Silver - Purple Moose Cwrw Glaslyn
Bronze - Rhymney Hobby Horse

We are pleased to announce our brand new special ale brewed for 'Cwrw ar y Cledrau / Rail Ale Festival', the annual beer festival held on and around the Welsh Highland Railway. Beddgelert is a light and refreshing golden session bitter with a distinctive hoppy finish, at 3.8%. It will be launched tomorrow (Friday) with the opening of the festival at Dinas goods shed, which then continues all weekend.

The name of Beddgelert is taken from one of the engines which used to operate out of Dinas on the North Wales Narrow Gauge Railways. The current Welsh Highland Railway development was rebuilt back through Beddgelert and beyond over the past year.
